In the late 19th century, he became interested in the idea of creating moving images, and he began experimenting with a device called the kinetoscope. The kinetoscope was essentially a wooden box with a small peephole on top, and inside the box was a spool of film with images that could be viewed by looking through the peephole. Edison envisioned a future where people could pay to watch these moving images in large theaters, and he began working on developing a projector that could display the images on a large screen.
